Common transfer status messages

The following is the list of most common transfer status messages, and short instructions on how to proceed in these situations:

1. Transferred and paid successfully

Congratulations! This means that the the domain name has been transferred successfully to us, but WAIT you are NOT done yet!

What to do?

In order for you to use the domain name with your hosting account associated with us, you need to complete the step outlined in our article: How to change my DNS servers.

2. Auto verification of transfer request initiated

This means that a verification email has been sent to registrant and/or admin contact, but the transfer has not yet been verified

What to do?

Have the domain owner at the losing registrar check their email (including their spam folder) for the verification email, and approve the transfer.

If the email address on record at the losing registrar is incorrect, correct the email address in the losing registrar's Whois record, and submit a new transfer request by contacting us at [email protected]

Please, note that we will need the EPP authorization key in order to re-initiate the transfer.

3. Awaiting auto verification of transfer request

This status message means that we have received your transfer request and are obtaining the current Whois information for the domain name you are attempting to transfer.

What to do?

No action is needed, the transfer will continue shortly.

4. Canceled - domain contacts did not approve transfer of domain

This message means that the transfer failed due to the Registrant or Administrative contact has rejected the transfer.

What to do?

Resolve the issues that caused the Registrant or Admin contact to reject the transfer (the contacts of record at the losing registrar), and then submit a new transfer request by contacting us at [email protected]

Please, note that we will need the EPP authorization key in order to re-initiate the transfer.

5. Canceled - domain contacts did not respond to verification emails

This message means that the transfer was canceled because neither the Registrant nor the Admin contact responded to verification emails

What to do?

Correct the domain's Whois information at the losing registrar (make sure that you have access to the email address listed under the domain's registrant contact information), and then submit a new transfer request by contacting us at [email protected]

Please, note that we will need the EPP authorization key in order to re-initiate the transfer.

6. Canceled - Domain is locked at current registrar or is not yet 60 days old

This message can appear under the following circumstances:

  • The domain name is locked at the losing registrar.
  • The domain name was registered or transferred fewer than 60 days ago.
What to do?

If the domain name is locked at the losing registrar, contact the registrar and request lock removal, and then submit a new transfer request by contacting us at [email protected].

Please, note that we will need the EPP authorization key in order to re-initiate the transfer.

If the domain name was registered fewer than 60 days ago, wait until the domain is older than 60 days, and then submit a new transfer request by contacting us at [email protected].

Please, note that we will need the EPP authorization key in order to re-initiate the transfer.

7. Canceled - Invalid EPP/authorization information - Please contact current registrar to obtain correct key

This means that the transfer failed due to an invalid EPP key/authorization code.

What to do?

Contact the current registrar and request that they resync the authorization code and send it to you. Once you have the authorization code, submit a new transfer request by contacting us at [email protected]

Please, note that we will need the EPP authorization key in order to re-initiate the transfer.

8. Canceled - The current registrar has rejected transfer (please contact them for details)

This message means that the losing registrar rejected the transfer request.

What to do?

Contact the losing registrar, resolve the reasons they rejected the transfer, then submit a new transfer request by contacting us at [email protected].

Please, note that we will need the EPP authorization key in order to re-initiate the transfer.

9. Canceled - cannot obtain domain contacts from UWhois

This message means that the losing registrar blocked Whois queries for more than a week, so the transfer request automatically canceled.

What to do? Contact us at [email protected] so that we can re-initiate the transfer request.

Please, note that we will need the EPP authorization key in order to re-initiate the transfer.

10. Unable to retrieve current domain contacts from UWhois

This message means that the Whois at the losing registrar is not accepting queries.

What to do?

No action is needed on your part; we will resolve this problem shortly. Please, check the domain transfer status later.
